In 1784, Virginia opened the Green River district, in what would later become Kentucky, to her Revolutionary War veterans. Settlers quickly populated the land south of the Green River.

Warren County, formed from Logan in 1797, was named after General Joseph Warren, a Massachusetts physician and political leader who died at the Battle of Bunker Hill. The county built its first courthouse on Bowling Green's present day Fountain Square.

North Warren elementary school is located in Smiths Grove. Secondary students can attend Warren East Middle and High schools in nearby Bowling Green. For higher learning opportunities, Western Kentucky University is a hop, skip and jump away. Residents can choose from several healthcare facilities in the area. Our downtown is bisected by a CSX Transportation line, formerly part of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad.

Bowling Green, Smiths Grove, and the surrounding area offer plenty of things to do. Visit Mammoth Cave National Park, Nolin Lake Recreation Area, Barren River Lake and many other outdoor havens during your free time. Witness a behind-the-scenes view of an American dream in the making at the GM Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green. Come explore the world's fascination with the famous sports car at the National Corvette Museum, which features more than 75 Corvettes on display.

Lost River Cave offers a fascinating exploration of Bowling Green's cave system and is home to Kentucky's only underground boat tour. Beech Bend Park's Kentucky Rumbler is hailed as the most twisted wooden roller coaster in seven states and will take you on a fun-filled journey that offers a bird's eye view of the park's over 40 rides and water park.
